Meet Chris Corbran: now with business cards!

January 14, 2010 by admin

As Venture Outdoors’ best, (and first,) Trip Leader Specialist Coordinator, you can expect more than a ruggedly handsome face to hike, paddle, and fish alongside. Joking aside, you will see me on future Family and Community Programs leading groups of first timers and seasoned adventurers into the deep, dark woods of Pittsburgh’s City Parks.

Come summertime, I will be busy facilitating, organizing, and leading trips on the Group and Youth end of Venture Outdoors programming. Wednesdays starting in May, you can catch me with the rest of my fishing buddies landing some monsters of the Allegheny during our TriAnglers program. Additionally, I am responsible for preparing our new recruit trip leaders for all that Venture Outdoors’ participants can throw at them.

I began working with Venture Outdoors as a senior Urban Studies major at the University of Pittsburgh. After putting time in as an intern, it is a great pleasure to reach a position that comes with business cards.

As a part of the VO team, I have had the chance to work in dynamic environment that not only keeps me on my toes, but keeps me active as well. Through VO, I received my Basic First Aid, CPR, AED, and Wilderness First Aid training. Every program I am involved in lends valuable experience for future situations, as there are some lessons that The Red Cross and NOLS don’t teach, (i.e. fishing with 30+ eight year olds.)

On days off, I enjoy hiking, biking, camping, sleeping in my hammock, and enjoying a hearty beer. Basically, all things I do during a typical day in the office. I recently returned from a few weeks on the east coast. I did all kinds of typical west coast things, climbing Mt. Whitney, hiking around the Palisades, rock hopping in Joshua Tree, and eating tripe tacos in Tijuana.

I look forward to the chance to meet some new adventurers, especially during our upcoming Eat a Bunch of Tacos Hike. Date, time, place, and feasibility have yet to be determined.

Cheers!

…and check out some photos from my trip!
