Golden Triangle Bike Rental opens for the season
No April fools trick here, our friends at Golden Triangle Bike Rental are starting their season on Thursday, April 1st at 11:00 am. Golden Triangle is one of the best places we know of to rent a bike in Pittsburgh. We like them so much, we’ll have Golden Triangle bikes available to rent at Kayak Pittsburgh Downtown throughout the summer!

Board Member Bio: Jonathan Kersting

Jonathan Kersting was converted, like several Pittsburghers we know, to the city’s slow charms. Seeing as he was born here, we found it a little ironic and a little sweet that as a kid, he was “terrified of Pittsburgh.” Discovering the countless opportunities for outdoor recreation in the region turned out to be what made him stay…and 22 years later, he’s on the board of Venture Outdoors.

As was reported, we have asked EDGE Studio to conduct a feasibility study, which will help us consider the possibility of developing a piece of riverfront property in Lawrenceville. Help Save the LHHT Bridge!

The Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail/Snowmobile Trail Bridge over the Pennsylvania Turnpike has been part of the current trail system for more than 30 years and is critical for the trail system to be complete. As we announced in the fall the bridge has been closed indefinitely due to structural deficiencies resulting in unsafe conditions, but now is your chance to take action!
Wilderness First Aid: 2 Weeks to Sign Up!

Friday, April 2nd is the last day to sign up for our spring Wilderness First Aid (WFA) training. Our annual spring WFA will be held Saturday and Sunday May 8th – 9th, but we need to secure enough instructors prior to the activity. The course is taught by the internationally recognized Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLS.

Banff Raffle: bigger and better than ever!

Anyone who’s been to the Banff Mountain Film Festival knows that the films are thrilling and inspiring and often make you want to jump out of your theater seat and go climb something. However, when Venture Outdoors hosts the Banff Mountain Film Festival even the intermission is exciting!
Each night we compile an extravagant spread of prizes and at the end of intermission raffle them off to one lucky winner after another! Brand new bikes, kayaks, Kayak Pittsburgh Season Passes and private guided fly fishing trips are among the top prizes, but this year we’ve added something else worth your dollar, TIMESHARES!
Friday night we’ll raffle off a week in Beaver Creek Colorado. The winner will spend 7 days at the Hyatt Mountain Lodge, an value of $2,100. The 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite sleeps 4-6 people and is located close to Vail Mountain.
Saturday night we’re giving away a week in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virgina at the Massanutten Resort. The resort is located 10 miles east of Harrisonburg, VA and features challenging golf courses, an indoor and outdoor waterpark, and luxurious spa.

Queen of Tyke Hikes: Lindsay Rethage

Parents and participants, meet Lindsay Rethage, leader of Tyke Hikes. Lindsay became involved with the program when Venture Outdoors was still Western Pennsylvania Field Institute. As her cohort, Beth Pedone, moves back into the workforce, Lindsay is stepping up to keep growing this fantastic program. Watch for her to begin leading Tyke Hikes come April!
