Family Programs kick off summer festivals at Venture Outdoors Festival

May 26, 2010 by admin

Despite the torrential rains, the Family and Community Programs tent at the Venture Outdoors 2010 Festival was a success!

Henna tattooing, and name writing in Arabic and ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs with the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh was very popular, as was crafting colorful insects and flowers from recycled material with the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.

Black and Gold City Goes Green, in line with the theme for World Environment Day: Water Matters, taught many attendees about point source and non-point source water pollution with their “Ecoscape” demonstration model.  Three Rivers Center for Independent Living provided information to attendees at all levels of mobility about accessible outdoor recreation facilities around town.

The Pitt African Drumming Ensemble led a two hour long jam session and provided additional instruments, along with Project 53, for attendees to join in the music making.

Whole families lined up to try their hand at Venture Outdoors Bike Bowling.

The variety of activities provided a well-rounded educational and recreational experience enjoyed by the multitude.  Thank you to all of our exhibitors and attendees.  We hope to see everyone at our upcoming Family Outdoor Festivals!
