NYC 5 Boro Bike Tour


Join Venture Outdoors and 30,000 of your closest friends for a traffic free ride around New York City. It’s time to grab your bicycle and your sense of adventure for a 42 mile loop around the Big Apple.

What’s the 5 Boro Bike Tour?

The 5 Boro is a 42 mile car-free bicycle ride around New York City. It’s not a race…..it’s just a lot of fun.
When – May 2nd-3rd, 2009. We leave Station Square at 9am sharp on May 2nd and return late in the evening on May 3rd. The ride starts at 8am on May 3rd.
Where – We depart and return to Station Square in Pittsburgh.
Why – Why not? February, March, and April will seem warmer if you have this fun time to look forward to.

How much will it all cost?

Known costs:

  • $250 to Venture Outdoors
  • $48 for early registration
  • $229-$249 for a hotel room. 1-4 people per room
  • $10 for parking in Pittsburgh
  • Total trip cost is estimated to be between $500-$600

Unknown costs:

  • Food – McDonald’s or 5 star dining, it’s up to you
  • Libations – Water’s cheap….238 year old bottles of wine are a little more
  • Souvenirs – hmmm….I wonder how many I Heart NY t-shirts will return to Pittsburgh?
  • Bail money …….let’s hope it doesn’t come to this.

Venture Outdoors will provide:

  1. Transportation to and from NYC for you, your gear, and your bike. Depending on the number of participants, we’ll use passenger vans or charter a bus. Let us do the driving so you can sleep on the way home and be ready for work on Monday. We’ll leave Station Square at 9am sharp on May 2nd and then we’ll leave NYC at 4pm sharp on May 3rd. Any one that is late will be left behind. *** Let us take care of the traffic, gas, and tolls.

  2. We have reserved a block of rooms in NYC at a discount. And we’re only 1 mile from the starting line! Riders must call the hotel to book a room.

  3. Overnight bike storage on May 2nd. (some hotels charge $20 for this)

  4. Like all our trips, we’ve provided the venue for you to meet new friends, see new places, and have a great time in the outdoors.

What to expect:

  • We leave early 9am from Station Square on Saturday to allow for free time that evening, giving you the chance to explore NYC on your own.

  • You have 8 hours to complete the bike tour. At an average speed of 7mph, you’ll finish with time to spare. *If you are running behind there’s a shortcut near the end.

  • We’re leaving NYC at 4pm on Sunday so we can make it back to Pittsburgh before midnight, giving you a fighting chance to stay awake at work on Monday.

  • Expect that the Tour will sell out early. It may sell out 30-60 days early.

  • Expect to have a ton of fun and meet other riders from Pittsburgh.
