Sixth-graders, big fish, and a treasure hunt

On May 27, 87 sixth graders from Steel Valley Middle School visited downtown of the Steel City for an afternoon of geocaching in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District, fishing the Allegheny River, and grilling hot dogs. Yum! The classes divided into two groups who switched fishing and geocaching for two hours each.

Fishing season extended for enthusiastic angler

Fishing season wasn’t cut short for Chet Tabas and the Venture Outdoors’ TriAnglers, but it could have been. The season was destined to end prematurely due to lack of funding. However, thanks to a generous donation from his mother, Carol Tabas, the season continued until September 30. She has also provided some funding for next season.

TriAnglers is very important to Tabas. He is an enthusiastic fisherman who has been joining the weekly fishing group for three years. TriAnglers, a weekly program of Venture Outdoors, meets at the North Shore Riverfront Park every Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. Tabas is joined by fishermen and women of every skill level who spend their lunch breaks doing some serious fishing.

Weekend Outlook: Last Sky Blast Paddle of the season!

We are sending September out with a bang, literally! This weekend is the last Sky Blast Paddle of the season; it’s your last chance to feel the booms and pops of the fireworks pulse through your body from your front row seat on the water. Or if you’re in the mood for a hike the Raccoon Creek Hike and Marvelous Merlot Hike will take you out of the busy city and into nature for some piece and quiet. TriAnglers Awards Angler of the Year

The annual TriAnglers awards ceremony was held today along the Riverfront Trail in front of PNC Park. Over 125 anglers came to fish over the summer, and together they reeled in over 300 fish including several new species. Today’s ceremony was supposed to cap off the season, but thanks to a generous donation from the Carol Tabbas Family TriAnglers will continue on September 9th and 30th!
