There’s nothing better than an early morning paddle around Porter’s Cove on Lake Arthur at Moraine State Park. Unless it’s an early morning paddle followed by a hearty helping of pancakes!
VO North program specialist Brandi Miller-Parrish will be flipping the flapjacks for us following our Pancake Paddle led by volunteer trip leader Heather Toth. The activity is this Sunday, July 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
We’ll launch from shore and paddle the cove, enjoying the morning sunshine and keeping a lookout for birds and wildlife. Meanwhile, at nearby Bear Run Campground, Brandi will be preparing pancakes and a variety of toppings for us (including locally grown berries…yum!), sausage, coffee and juice.
Rise and shine, folks, and join VO North for a tasty paddle that’s guaranteed to please your palate.

Thank goodness it’s Friday! Nine paddlers celebrated the end of another work week on the Allegheny River last Friday. Ominous skies threatened rain in the morning and early afternoon, but trip leader Rich Ferro refused to lose hope. By 5 o’clock, the clouds had lost their shadows and a cool breeze allowed for a beautiful evening on the water.

Our kayaking activities at Porter’s Cove in Moraine State Park are a hit! Participants are loving the peaceful lake and unique setting and paddles are selling out in advance. To accommodate the increased interest we’re adding weeknight paddles to the summer and fall schedule. But first check out some of the feedback from participants so far:

Kayak with Us at Moraine State Park
We’ve been ready and willing to make our kayaking debut at Moraine State Park ever since May 3. The slight break in the rainy weather finally allowed us to offer our first kayaking activity on May 23 and it was worth the wait!

In celebration of Great Outdoors Week, we’ve got a slew of hikes, bike rides, rock climbing adventures and paddles scheduled between Friday, May 13 and Sunday, May 22. It’s all leading up the culmination on Saturday, May 21st – the Venture Outdoors Festival!
