Yes Christmas is over, but the weather is perfect for a winter carriage ride, complete with sleigh bells and all! Come on out and enjoy a variety of winter activities at the Peterswood Park Winter Wonderland Event on Sunday, February 28th.

Enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides through the park, guide-led nature walks along the Arrowhead Trail and a Chili Cook-Off contest with hot chocolate to warm you up afterward. This is a fun-filled event for the whole family!

Venture Outdoors is excited to be a part of the Winter Wonderland. Our Tyke Hikes Trip Leader Lindsay Rethage will be there leading nature hikes throughout the afternoon. Stop by and say hello!

Come celebrate and defend the Yough

Everyone is invited to the Youghiogheny Defense Party on Thursday, November 19 at Falls City Pub in Ohiopyle! This event benefits the Yough Defense Fund of the Youghiogheny RIVERKEEPER. Numerous businesses and citizens are sponsoring this event so 100% of the proceeds can go to help cover legal expenses incurred in defending the Yough from the proposed Curry Mine.

The Curry Mine is a proposed 480 acre strip mine along the banks of the Youghiogheny River, just below the southern border of Ohiopyle State Park and adjacent to the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail.

100 Years of Grand Views!

Grandview Park is celebrating its 100th birthday and everyone is invited to join in the fun! Friends of Grandview Park will host a birthday celebration in the park on Saturday, October 3 from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM. There will be something for everyone including a marketplace of arts and crafts, plus music and children’s entertainment. Kids will be able to climb to the top of a life-size fort to see the panoramic view of the city.

The festivities will take place at, 499 Bailey Ave, Mt. Washington, 15211.

Step Up to the Challenge

On Sunday, October 4 at 8:30 AM, the Fineview Citizens Council welcomes hikers, runners and walkers to an urban hike and Step-A-Thon Challenge. The route for the hike was developed in collaboration with Venture Outdoors and offers participants a 5 mile urban course that challenges hikers and runners to climb and descend 1357 steps (the original “stair-masters”). Wild Art Wild Trails Festival

If you love recycling; you will love this! A Wild Art Wild Trails Festival is happening Labor Day, September 7 at Mount Washington Park. Here’s what’s going on: a morning (9:00-12:00) dumpsite cleanup will be followed by an afternoon (1:00-4:00) festival in this little known part of the Grand View Scenic Byway Park. Festival activities include helping artists turn dumpsite garbage into art, a climbing wall, kayak demonstrations, ultimate frisbee, boxing, trail walks and treasure hunts.

There’s a brand new city park in Pittsburgh and it takes up a large part of one of our most beloved tourism attractions, Mt. Washington. It has everything…lots of trees and trails, great views of the skyline, historical significance, an eclectic mix of homes and two really cool inclines. One thing it doesn’t have is a really good name!
